Myriad (XMY) is a cryptocurrency that was created in 2014 by five developers who were previously active in the Bitcoin community. The team’s goal was to create a coin that would be ASIC-resistant, meaning that it could not be mined with specialized hardware. Myriad accomplished this by using five different hashing algorithms, which they refer to as “Myriad-Groestl”, “Skein”, “Qubit”, “Scrypt”, and “Sha256”.
Myriad was one of the first coins to adopt Multi-Algorithm mining and is still one of only a few coins that support this feature. Multi-Algorithm mining allows miners to mine Myriad using any of the five supported algorithms, and receive a proportional share of the block reward based on the amount of work they contributed.
